How to get your medical records from MaineHealth

MaineHealth (Portland, ME) publishes MyChart portal as a records route. The fastest way is through the MyChart patient portal; patients can also complete the Authorization to Release Protected Health Information form and submit it to Health Information Management by mail, fax, or email. For HIPAA-covered providers, federal access rules generally require action within 30 calendar days and limit copy fees to specified, reasonable cost-based items.

  1. Start with MyChart portal
The fastest path for most recent records from MaineHealth — often instant and free.
  2. Or send a right-of-access letter
For older or complete records, a formal HIPAA right-of-access letter is your strongest tool. Generate one free below — no account.
  3. The 30-day clock starts when they receive it
Under 45 CFR § 164.524 the provider must respond within 30 days; one 30-day extension is allowed with written notice, after which you can escalate to HHS OCR.
